From Dean's website:
Ronald Reagan has influenced and inspired my political thinking. He was a visionary and a true leader. He WAS the great communicator. He was also a true conservative. In his youth he was an athlete, artist, actor, and salesperson. I, too, was an athlete, an aspiring writer and a salesperson.
Our establishment candidates are not cutting the mustard. None of them offer anything different than what we already have. That's what differentiated Reagan from many %u2013 he was not a lifetime politician. He sought no one's approval for job security or promotion. He was beholden to none. He was an unapologetic conservative, a political outsider, a true reformer. Washington is full of establishment politicians. Let's not send another.
The race for Maine's 1st District Congressional seat is much the same - full of establishment candidates. These are establishment candidates who depend on the political system - local, state and federal government - for their own livelihood. I do not. My motivations are transparent. I want to serve and then return to the community. The Founding Fathers strongly advocated a government for, of and by the people, especially in the House of Representatives.
When Reagan was asked back in 1966 why he was running for governor of California, he responded %u201CWe've reached a period where the philosophical differences between our two parties are so great that it's high time for people from the rank and file of the citizenry to involve themselves so that we can have government of and by, and most of all for the people.%u201D
From AndyHarris08.com:Years ago, my parents fled communist regimes in Eastern Europe to America to experience America's blessings and contribute to the American way of life. My late father spent two years in a Russian gulag before experiencing the freedoms of America. Only in America could his son become a doctor, a State Senator, and now the Republican Party's nominee for Congress....
As Republicans we must address rising healthcare costs, and make insurance widely available and affordable - but we must do it by applying free market solutions. Universal government healthcare is not the answer. Hillarycare is not the answer. As a doctor, I hope to bring an important and informed perspective on how to expand insurance options to the uninsured, while maintaining the innovation in which our nation has led the world.
The threat of Islamic terrorism is the greatest threat of our generation. As a naval veteran, I understand the threat of Islamic radicalism to our very way of life. We must win the global War on Terror - no matter the cost. I will do everything I can to enable our men and women in the military to win that War, so that our children don't have to.
I look forward to debating the issues facing our country with my democratic opponent. Voters will see a clear difference in my philosophy of smaller government, lower taxes, verses the democrats' philosophy of higher taxes and bigger more intrusive government.
From SteveScalise.com:

He's been called a conservative maverick - He has stood by his principles to protect our families. Steve Scalise has stood for lower taxes, eliminating wasteful spending, reforming our political system, and punishing the politically corrupt. There is a new era of conservative reform sweeping across the state. Steve Scalise has led the fight for this reform movement. He has fought to protect the sanctity of life, traditional marriage, our gun rights, and fought to reform our state's reputation. Now, Steve Scalise is ready to restore conservative values to Congress.
He's been called a fighter for Louisiana's small businesses - Voted against every proposal to raise taxes. Fought to eliminate sales taxes on machinery and equipment. Has a 92% pro-business voting record according to the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry. Co-authored bill to cut taxes on business utilities.
He's been called a true friend of the law enforcement community - Fought to keep criminal suspects in jail longer so they are not released back on the streets prematurely. Passed the bill to give law-abiding citizens the right to carry firearms in the event of a natural disaster. Fought to make sure the National Guard and State Police have the tools they need to protect our citizens from the New Orleans crime wave.
Full disclosure: Bill Keffer is a personal friend of mine, but friend or no, I wouldn't want him in office if I didn't know him to be a solid Reaganite conservative. Bill is the kind of guy that pulls no punches when it comes to fighting for right principles. Please note: unless otherwise indicated, posts on this page should not be interpreted as official endorsements by the group.
From Bill's campaign website:
I am proud of the years I served as your representative and the accomplishments we made during that time. The most significant accomplishment was balancing a budget with a $10-billion deficit in 2003 by cutting spending and eliminating duplication and waste, while avoiding tax increases %u2014 that is the kind of responsible government this district and our state deserve. I%u2019m also proud that we enacted: historic tort reform that has significantly improved access to health care around the state; insurance reform that has greatly increased choice and competition for consumers; and reforms in public education so that performing teachers are rewarded, expenditures are transparent to taxpayers, and accountability for teaching our children has been enhanced.
Standing Up Against Bad Policy
Because I know what I believe and my fundamental responsibility was to represent the views of our area, I have, on occasion, had to differ even with the leadership in my own party. That opposition was most pronounced in 2005 when I led the opposition against the new business tax, and I also voted against Republican leadership on a state budget that increased spending by a whopping 19%. Supporting good policy, but also having the courage to oppose bad policy- even when it%u2019s being promoted by my own party %u2014 is the kind of independent, common-sense representation you deserve.
It was a great honor and privilege to be your representative from 2003-06, and I am anxious to return to Austin and once again be your voice for common sense.
